Music Director – St. Thomas’ Church, Towson
St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church in Towson, Maryland, seeks a Music Director. As Music Director, the ideal candidate would be an organist/choirmaster and will also both liaison with and participate in the Contemporary Worship group. We have a small but dedicated choir that we would like to see grow. One of our members is a paid singer from Towson University. The other four are volunteers. We would also like to see the Childrens/Youth choir be resurrected, if possible. Choir currently meets Thursday evenings at 7:30, and sings at the 9:30 am Eucharist on Sunday.
Recently the church chose to combine its Contemporary and Traditional services, so that the music for the one service is varied. The Worship Band plays half the songs, and the Organist does the other half. In a perfect scenario, the two groups would be blended together so that the music, while mixed between traditional hymns and contemporary worship songs, would be done in a way that allows both groups to participate with the other, rather than trading off between the two sets of musicians.
The ideal candidate would be an enthusiastic musician who likes all types of music for worship, has excellent skills on the organ, and the ability to direct the choir with skill and recruit new members. He or she would be a team player, flexible, and interested in working with a variety of musicians and styles.
One service per week plus seasonal extra services: Thanksgiving Eve, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day (negotiable), Lessons and Carols (congregational singing) on Christmas I, Holy Week services, including two services on Good Friday: a traditional liturgy at noon, and a Taize Tenebrae in the evening. One to two rehearsals per week. Salary commensurate with experience.
